Right in the last week, better late than never I guess. A bit of a last minute bulb above the head, I must like the pressure. Well the musician doesn't need much explaining, Beethoven one of the greatest musicians ever. He continued composing even when he was completely deaf, doesn't get much more legendary than that. Just put together a modern portrait with a bit of my own flavor in it.

June - Musician - Phoebe Adams

Marina Pier started life as a pencil drawing. At that time she didn’t know her name. She had however, cruelly enslaved a fish to act as a microphone stand. She also had her own amp. Her dream was to grow up to become a digital image. Vector or bitmap she didn’t care. Her ambition was to be stored on a hard drive or even better, a server. Internet fame was calling.

Marina was looking promising. So she underwent a scan in order to become digitized. Once digitized it was up to lengthly Illustrator sessions to change her from bitmap replica of her paper self to the most prized vectorgraphic form. Painstakingly traced, Marina Pier started to come together. After the tracing process she was issued with a colour scheme. It was at this time she formed her band “The Sirens”.

So it is with great pleasure that I introduce to you, Marina Pier and The Sirens. The latest rock sensation to wash up on our shores. Performing for you live and in RGB colour, right here on The Cuttlefish. Take it away MP.

This month's theme is....Musician.
Is it going to be a portrait of a musician? Something that relates to being a musician? A caricature? Photo? Drawing? Video? Performance art? Projection into space??
With this one you can be as specific as you want (ie make it a chance to show off your character development skills) or as broad as your imagination can stretch it.

OK so I missed the deadline! I had the idea for a month but it took this long to get an uninterrupted chance to chuck something up. Chuck up is the right expression. I was going for one of those classic quotation calendar images. You know, the inspiration for the desperate and unwilling type publications. I had an awesome pic of a seagull I took down at the breakwater here in Warrnambool. I found a suitably gushy line (that has some resonance actually) in Johnathan Livingstone Seagull. Combine the two and there’s that office calendar image people love to hate. There’s a bit more to this story but then you probably need to do your own interpretation. After all, it’s your right to fly. Don't let me or anyone else tell you what to believe.

The tortoise imagined growing feathers, and living as a parrot. It seemed like a wonderful life. And at first, it seemed impossible.

But then he thought back. Back when he had the heaviest shell in the arroyo, living with a light shell had seemed dangerous and unlikely -- but he had tried it, and it worked. Back when he lived with a light shell, living without any shell had seemed ridiculous and impossible -- but he learned to do it, and that had enabled him to cross the desert and reach the jungle where he found his new friends.

"It may be impossible for me to fly," he said to himself, "but I am going to try it. Maybe I can do it."

Phew! Just snuck this one on deadline. Tough topic! My entry comes from an Urthboy song which is (surprisingly enough) about walking home in the dead of the night. It's also about being creative and being inspired, both of these thing rang true to me as on many occasions I have decided to wander home and found myself eager to make work.

A little about the work:
For this piece of work, each of us had to get a picture from the internet and "vectorize" it in illustrator with only the "Mighty" Pen Tool and then match it to some Lyrics. After learning just earlier that day from a classmate (Jai) that you can change the way you use lines in illustrator I decided to use this idea and improvise a little changing the way lines flow from one to another and eventually came up with this. Afterwards I exported it and then imported it to Photoshop and cleaned it up to get it to it's current stage.

The artwork must speak itself.....Out of many kids stories I choosed the Frog and the Ox. The story is meaningful to me even though its not popular. It has a great message across that invites us to take a board.
