Open influence - July

We are all influenced by what has happened in the past. Sometimes it is obvious in our work and sometimes it is more subtle. Some "creatives" directly try to put their own "new" meaning to an iconic image or story.

For example, when John Brack painted "The Bar" he had Edouard Manet's "A bar at the Folies-Bergere" in mind. (Both pictures are below)

Their is a whole blog dedicated to illustrators who are doing their own version of Maurice Sendak's "Where the wild things are". http://www.terribleyelloweyes.com/ (Examples below)

For this month you can create your own version of an iconic image with a "new meaning" (remember to write in the post your new meaning/intention) or post some of your recent work that you have created and discuss the influences apparent in the work.

I look forward to some interesting reading this month.
