End of year Exhibition

Friday the 26th of November was the opening of the Media and Graphic Design end of year exhibition.

It is our first graduating year for the Diploma of Graphic Design and the Diploma of Interactive Media courses.

We had a lot of people attend the opening night. It was officially opened by Mayor Michael Neoh and Gareth Collition, a local artist, also made a speech. The night was very successful congratulations to all the students who exhibitioned.

The Interactive Media students made these great bears to put our invites on around town. They also made paper mache bear heads for students to wear at the other events to advertise the exhibition.

The above were inspired by the book Alice in Wonderland and the movie just released by Tim Burton. I see life like this sometimes, finding myself in situations that are so from the world i grew up in. I created these pieces for a project last term and it expresses my growth in using the graphic styles combined with my visual arts and photography. I hope you all enjoy and don't forget to visit my blog at http://369headdesign.blogspot.com/  You can see this work at SWTAFE from 26 July to 2nd August on the 2nd floor from the Timor Street entrance up near our Graphic and Media Studios.

Words of Optimism

I began the process of research for this competition, by looking for words of optimism already spoken, or quoted by famous people. Many quotes that I found which appealed to me, were by Author, Political Activist and Lecturer, Helen Keller, who overcame so much adversity in her life with her disabilities. Helen was deaf and blind, which resulted from an illness as a toddler. The quote by Helen Keller was taken from her writings on Optimism in 1903.

Helen’s words significantly reflect who I am, a believer in optimism and I remain positive in whatever I do to achieve my goals.  My design reflects the Art Deco period, which I find simple, yet classically appealing.

Hi Everyone
This is a late theme post again. As it is winter and a good time to snuggle on the couch with a good book. Why not use that book for inspiration. Be creative and have fun and tell us what book you used for inspiration (could be a direct quote or how the book triggered and idea).

This is a bit of a late entry for May. I took this when playing around with my camera, it came out very black and you couldn't seen anything really. I played around in photoshop a bit and though the colour is still quite bad, I still rather like this picture.

Thoughts to Oneself, In A Pause of Holiday Space

Artist: Cristy Knowles. Size: Medium: Acrylic Paint. Date: 18/5/10. Title: Thoughts to Oneself, In A Pause of Holiday Space. Course: Cert 4 Visual Arts and Contemporary Craft

A multitudinous thought process, and observing, looking, watching, listening. Winds of thoughtfulness, people watching, and people talking. A photograph of myself in my minds eye. An alter ego, of introspection. Dancing to ones own singular heartbeat, and sitting within a rooms corner, as outside it rains. Making comfort food of words, and reading. Walking past a mirror and it watches you. Holidays are sitting, observant, and one second and they are fled.

During the holidays i needed to keep up my drawing and decided to join draw club and this is from live models. I am not comfortable drawing figures but i have decided to just go with what appears on the paper and to allow my technique and style to develop. It took 4 drawings to be happy with one. Cheers and welcome back everyone.
